Keiko’s Words FAQ
Published · Updated
What is Keiko’s Words?
Keiko’s Words is a free daily word game played in the browser: guess three secret words a day, each from up to five clues that go from hardest to easiest, with Keiko the pixel dog cheering you on. It was made by Kale, with his dog Keiko as the mascot.
How do you play Keiko’s Words?
Each day has three secret words. Each word starts with one hard clue. Type a one-word guess. A wrong guess reveals the next, easier clue. You have up to five clues per word, and the fewer you use, the better your score.
Is Keiko’s Words free?
Yes. As of October 2026, today’s puzzle and the previous two days are free to play with no account. An optional archive subscription costs $1.99 USD per month and unlocks every earlier day back to May 28, 2026.
When do new Keiko’s Words puzzles come out?
Three new words go live every day at midnight Eastern Time (America/Toronto).
Do I need an account or an app?
No. Keiko’s Words runs in any web browser on phone or computer, and progress saves in your browser. Signing in with Google is optional and syncs your progress across devices.
Are typos accepted?
Small typos in longer answers are forgiven, so a slip of the finger does not cost you a clue. A different real word still counts as a wrong guess.
Where can I get hints for today’s Keiko’s Words?
The hints page gives spoiler-free nudges for each of today’s three words: the letter count, the first letter and the easiest clue, each hidden until you tap it.
Who is Keiko?
Keiko is a real dog who belongs to Kale, the game’s developer. The pixel dog in the game is drawn after her. You can see photos on the About Keiko page.
How is Keiko’s Words different from Wordle?
Wordle asks you to find one five-letter word from colored letter feedback. Keiko’s Words gives you three words of any length and uses meaning-based clues instead of letter feedback. See Keiko’s Words vs Wordle.
